Olimpija managed to keep pace midway into the game and even headed to half time with a three-point lead, but then it ran out of steam in the third quarter, giving the Turkish side a sufficient opening.

Aron Baynes with 14 points and Klemen Prepelič with 13 were the top scorers for the home team in a game that attracted some 8,000 spectators to Stožice Arena.

Olimpija coach Sašo Filipovski was not disappointed after the game, but he acknowledged the loss was result of own mistakes. "Fenerbahce are so experienced they take advantage of every mistake."

"I don't blame the guys. We gave it our best but Fenerbahce are a great side," he said.

The game was overshadowed by a scandal involving Fenerbahce point guard Romain Sato, who returned to Istanbul prior to the game after he was found to have a fake passport.

Fenerbahce called it a scandal, but Olimpija distanced itself from the affair, saying it was a matter of bureaucracy.

Olimpija will play the next game against the Greek side Panathinaikos on 26 October in Ljubljana.
