A selection of best world and Slovenian cinema from the ongoing season will be screened in the courtyard of Ljubljana Castle between 13 July and 5 August as part of the Film Under the Star series.

The opening screening will be a double bill of two Slovenian award-winning films. The Slovenian-French animated short Granny's Sexual Life has won the European Film Award and the César for Best Animated Short, while the road movie Riders by Dominik Mencej won the Audience Award at the Festival of Slovenian Film.

The programme includes five premieres, among them the Italian film Nostalgia by Mario Martone and Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer, a film about J. Robert Oppenheimer, often credited as the "father of the atomic bomb".

Moreover, the winner of this year's Palme d'Or, Anatomy of a Fall by Justine Triet, will be screened on 27 July, and on 2 August Past Lives by Celine Song, which has received a lot of praise at this year's Sundance and Berlin film festivals.

The event will conclude on 5 August with one of the most anticipated films this year, Asteroid City by American director Wes Anderson. He has been the most popular director at Kinodvor, Ljubljana's art cinema, which co-organises the open-air cinema series, in its 15 years.

To mark the cinema's anniversary, his 2014 film Grand Budapest Hotel has been included in the event's programme for being the most-watched film in the Kinodvor cinema so far.

The screenings will take place every day at 9:30pm. Films will be screened in their original language with Slovenian subtitles, with non-English films also subtitled in English. Tickets are on sale already.

In case of poor weather forecast, the screening will take place the next day at 9pm at Kinodvor. For premieres, two alternative screenings will be available at Kinodvor.
