Slovenia's basketball superstar Luka Dončić has got engaged to his long-time girlfriend Anamaria Goltes at the lakeside resort of Bled, announcing the news on his Instagram profile.

The 24-year-old Dallas Mavericks point guard shared a romantic picture of him getting down on his knee before his girlfriend.

Dončić picked the date of the engagement, 7 July, to match his jersey number 77.

Congratulations to the couple have been quick to pour in, including from Dončić's Dallas teammates, LeBron James, one of the best basketball players of all time, and Belgian Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.

The Ljubljana NBA star is currently on holidays in his homeland. He will play for Slovenia at the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup, hosted by the Philippines, Japan, and Indonesia from 25 August to 10 September.
