Slum dunk stunts a gogo in Congress Square
Local, European and USA acrobats showed off their slum dunking skills as Ljubljana hosted the 5th Acrobatic Basketball World Cup and Olympic trampoline competition on 7 August. Two members of Slovenia's Dunking Devils set a Guinness world record in the highest mini trampoline slum dunk.
The spectacle in Congress Square saw some of the big names, including the sport's legend Jerry L. Burrell, USA Dunk Team captain who featured on America's Got Talent. At the age of 59 he is still doing crazy stunts.
The USA team, featuring acrobats who perform in NBA half-time shows, did best again in Ljubljana, taking their third world title. Hungary's Kerim Daghistani took home the title in the individual competition.
In another highlight of the event, Tadej Ambrožič and Luka Lorenčič excelled in the Guinness world record slum dunk attempt from the mini trampoline, eliminating all the rivals to raise the bar to 5 metres, the organizers said.
They added that there should be no doubt about the achievement as the measurements were done by Dewesoft, a Trbovlje-based high-tech company which works with NASA and other major high-tech businesses.
The entire prize money from the event went for charity as the winners renounced their prizes on behalf of those affected by the devastating floods that hit the country on 4 August.
