Slovenia's biggest entrepreneur-owned firms

Emissions trader Belektron is by far the biggest Slovenian entrepreneur-owned company in terms of sales revenue, having generated €3.16 billion in 2022, according to the first ever ranking of enterprises and groups owned by entrepreneurs who employ, pay taxes and have their headquarters in Slovenia.

The ranking, compiled by the business magazine Podjetna Slovenija (Enterprising Slovenia) in collaboration with consultancy Dun & Bradstreet Slovenija, has Akrapovič, the exhaust system maker majority-owned by Igor Akrapovič, as the largest employer among such companies with a headcount of 1,663.

In terms of revenue, Boštjan Bandelj's Belektron is ahead of Branko Roglić's Orbico, an agent for multiple international brands in Slovenia, which generated €330 million in 2022.

Placing third is Moro & Kunst, an investment gold dealer owned by Irena Kunstelj Moro with €242 million in sales revenue.

Meanwhile, biodiesel trader Valiant pays by far the highest average salary of €7,300 gross. The company, which is co-owned by Janez Lotrič, Ksenia Pirš Stupan and foreign owners, ranks among the five biggest revenue-generating companies, along with Jagros, a retailer owned by the Jager family.

The top ten in terms of revenue include Akrapovič; industrial conglomerate Riko, owned by Janez Škrabec and Jozo Dragan; ADK, a steel products manufacturer co-owned by Vili Šumer and Bogdan Špes; Rastoder, Izet Rastoder and Hajrija Rastoder's catering and trade company; and Surovina, a waste management firm owned by the company Rastoder.

Apart from Akrapovič, the biggest employers are transport company Nomago (875 employees), plastics producer TBP (848) and Jagros (825).

Belektron also tops the ranking in terms of value added per employee (€3.55 million), followed by solar module manufacturer Bisol Proizvodnja (€2.23 million), timber goods trader Euroforest (€1.04 million), business services provider Figure 8 Trade (€918,000) and energy systems management solutions provider Ngen (€765,000).
