Slovenia's only three-Michelin starred restaurant, Hiša Franko, has once again made the World's 50 Best Restaurants list this year, albeit sliding from 32nd place to 48th. Chef Ana Roš says making the list for the eighth consecutive year is a veritable feat.

"Well done, team, well done because the list of the world's best restaurants has changed drastically over the past two years and many iconic restaurants are no longer on it," Roš, likely the best-known Slovenian chef, on 6 June.

The judging panel said that Roš had put Slovenia on the culinary map after being declared the world's best female chef in 2017. She is a self-taught cook, specialising in local food, grown only a few kilometres from her restaurant in the town of Kobarid in the Soča Valley.

Shooting to global fame in the Netflix series Chef's Table, Roš has won a number of awards. Among other things, she was third in the Best Chef Awards 2023 competition, and the only woman to make the top ten.

The first place on the World's 50 Best Restaurants list went to Disfrutar in Barcelona, followed by Asador Etxebarri in Atxondo, both Spain, while the Paris restaurant Table by Bruno Verjus was named the third best restaurant in the world.

The World's 50 Best Restaurants list has been issued for 22 years and is considered a top brand in global gastronomy.
