But Erjavec also pointed out that Slovenia respected the Palestinians' right to self-determination since this is how it became independent itself.

Commenting on the latest escalation of violence in Gaza, Erjavec said he "condemned violence on both sides, but what Israel is doing is disproportionate."

"Looking at the number of victims, we see that it is significantly higher on one side since Israel has a pretty efficient rocket defence," according to the minister.

Defence Minister Aleš Hojs, who took part in a meeting of defence ministers today, meanwhile said in reference to the UN General Assembly vote that it was "difficult to negate what is already de facto".

His information suggest the Palestinians already have "quite a solid majority" in the UN General Assembly for the vote.
