Slovenian secondary school student Peter Andolšek has achieved a remarkable feat that no other student in the world has achieved before. He has won his fourth consecutive gold at an International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics, and emerged as the overall winner for the second time in a row.

To top it off, he received a special prize for the best achievement in the theoretical part of the competition, the Slovenian Association of Mathematicians, Physicists and Astronomers said on 27 August.

Andolšek, a student of the Gimnazija Bežigrad in Ljubljana, one of the most prestigious secondary schools in the country, has been a fan of science since he was a little child.

After winning the title last year, he said he had always been fascinated by space, and when he attended his first competition at the end of primary school, he also got into the computational aspects of astronomy.

Andolšek was not the only Slovenian to return from Vassouras, Brazil with a medal. The five-member Slovenian team won two golds and two silvers, with the second gold going to another Gimnazija Bežigrad student, Žan Arsov.

This was the 12th time that Slovenian students participated in the International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics. They have so far won seven golds, 14 silvers and 10 bronzes.
