Slovenian archers Živa Lavrinc and Dejan Fabčič won the bronze medal in the mixed team recurve open event at the Paris Paralympic Games after winning the shoot-out against the Indian team.

Lavrinc and Fabčič started the day out with a 6:2 win against Columbia in the round of 16. In the quarter-finals they defeated China but went on to lose against Turkey in the semifinals.

In the match for third place the Slovenians faced off Pooja and Harvinder Singh. The match was tied after four sets but the Slovenians were more precise in the shoot-off. Fabčič scored nine points and Lavrinc ten to win 19:17 against India.

"It's fantastic that we were able to focus and fight for this," said Lavrinc, adding that she was not thinking about the fact that it all came down to her shot.

These were the first Paralympic Games for Lavrinc but the fourth for Fabčič. The target at 70 metres is so small, Fabčič said, adding that the five-point shot that cost them the finals would haunt him in his dreams for some time.

"A very long day, dramatic ... three shoot-outs, it was close every time. I'm glad it turned out well for them," said their coach Brina Božič.

This is the second medal for Slovenia at the Paris Paralympics after Franček Gorazd Tiršek won gold in the air rifle standing position. The archery event on 5 September was the last event for Slovenian athletes at the Games.
