Slovenia summons Israeli ambassador over Lebanon attacks
The Slovenian Foreign Ministry has summoned Israeli Ambassador Zeev Boker for talks over the Israeli attacks in Lebanon that have claimed over 500 lives, Foreign Minister Tanja Fajon announced.
Fajon did not specify when the talks would take place, but sources at the Foreign Ministry say Boker is expected at the Foreign Ministry on Wednesday, 25 September.
Israel does not have an embassy in Slovenia and Boker is a non-resident ambassador.
In a statement on the margins of the UN General Assembly session in New York on 24 September, Fajon said Lebanon was becoming a new Gaza.
"Fact is that Israel is stepping up violence, in Lebanon as well as in Gaza, Palestine, the West Bank. It is stepping up military operations," she said.
Fajon said Israeli actions constituted violations of international law and disregard decisions of the International Court of Justice demanding an immediate end to the violent occupation.
"Slovenia will do everything in its power while respecting international law and the UN Charter," she said.
Fajon will soon hold talks with Lebanese Foreign Minister Abdallah Bou Habib to determine what else can be done.
