A 24-storey high-rise that will be the second tallest residential building in Slovenia is planned near the main railway station in Ljubljana. Construction is slated to start in 2026, Slovak developer Corwin has announced.

Called Nordika and standing at 82 metres tall, the building will be located in what is currently a degraded area. It will have 290 one- to four-room apartments with big windows and panoramic views and also feature rooftop terraces.

The project was designed by Norwegian studio Snohetta in cooperation with the Slovenian studio Protim RP.

Locally sourced materials will be used in construction, while a system for collecting rainwater will prevent additional water coming into the local sewage system so as to reduce flood risk, Corwin said.

An energy-efficient building, Nordika will also feature photovoltaic panels and a ventilated facade.

Corwin has been operating on the Slovenian market since 2017. It has has so far built a complex of four residential buildings in the Šiška borough known as Kvartet, which was finished at the beginning of this year, and is currently building a commercial large development called Vilharija adjacent to the main train station.

Its plans in Ljubljana also include the revitalisation of a degraded area by the Linhartova Road not far from the BTC shopping district and a project to redevelop the area of the former Kolinska plant, located not far from the proposed site of Nordika.
