Hundreds of cycling fans threw a heartfelt welcome for Primož Roglič in his home town on 17 October following yet another successful season, crowned with his fourth victory at the Vuelta e España. The ribbon was cut on a 10-kilometre cycling path and a memorial park named after him, featuring plaques of all his achievements.

"This is beyond my imagination, I am very honoured," said the native of Kisovec, a village just west of Zagorje ob Savi, a former mining town tucked away in the hills of central Slovenia.

The cycling path has been in use for months, but the official inauguration has been held off until after the end of Roglič's season so that he could be present for the honours.

The path leads from the Zagorje ob Savi train station west through Kisovec and past the new memorial park, and ends in the village of Orehovica.

"I really wish that the path will serve its purpose and the young will be able to do sports safely, using this infrastructure," Roglič, who will turn 35 later this month, said at the event.

The memorial park was developed from a car park along the main road where locals spontaneously started to place various objects commemorating Roglič's major cycling achievements.

Apart from four Vuelta titles, these include the Giro d'Italia 2023 victory and the Olympic gold in time-trial at the 2020 Tokyo Games. He has chalked up 22 wins at multi-day races, 88 career race wins and 33 stage wins.

The Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe rider has not yet disclosed his plans for next season, but speaking at a fundraising cycling event for his charity foundation in Nova Gorica on 13 October he joked the he will choose races where Tadej Pogačar is not present.
