Katarina Čas cast in new BBC drama
Katarina Čas, the Slovenian actress best known internationally for her role in Martin Scorsese's The Wolf of Wall Street, has been cast in Wild Cherry, a new BBC series written by BAFTA winner Nicôle Lecky.
The 48-year-old actress will appear in a supporting role in all six parts of the series. She told the Slovenian Press Agency she is happy about the role in what she described as a brilliant ensemble cast.
Lecky's second drama for the BBC will be led by the House of the Dragon star Eve Best and Carmen Ejogo, who appeared in the HBO crime series The Penguin and True Detective.
According to the BBC, Ejogo will play Lorna, a self-made, successful black businesswoman from South London who has worked hard to be where she is, and Best will portray her best friend Juliet, a woman born into the privileged gated community they both call home.
Also joining the cast are Imogen Faires and Amelia May, as their daughters.
They live in a private estate where bad things never happen, until the daughters are implicated in a shocking scandal at their exclusive private school and Juliet and Lorna are forced to take sides, pushing their friendship to breaking point.
The BBC describes the series as a "provocative and deliciously honest look at mother/daughter relationships in a haze of social media, hidden apps and peer pressure".
Čas was unable to disclose any details about her role, but she said the shooting started in October and is expected to wrap up in February or March, which means she will be travelling a lot.
"I'm travelling next week, then again in December, in January and February." She is "excited" about her role, "but it's going to be busy flying out and back".
Čas has appeared in several star-studded British and US productions before, including as a Swiss woman named Chantelle in Scorsese's The Wolf of Wall Street with Leonardo DiCaprio in the lead role.
She was Gabriela McBride in The Guard, a 2011 film by John Michael McDonagh starring Don Cheadle and Brendan Gleeson, and played alongside Al Pacino in the 2015 comedy-drama Danny Collins.
She also played in British TV series Wild Bill, starring Rob Lowe, Death in Paradise, New Tricks and A Touch of Cloth, as well as in American series Berlin Station and Jack Ryan.
She says she always feels a bit tense when joining a new cast, but this suits her well. With Wild Cherry there was not so much nervousness as there was excitement for the shooting to start at last.
Audiences at home will be able to watch her on the big screen as the thriller It Was a Beautiful Day (Pa tako lep dan je bil) hits the cinemas on 5 December after being screened at the 20th Grossmann Fantastic Film and Wine Festival in Ljutomer in June.
