A unique culinary experience that takes visitors on a tour through six key periods that defined the history of Ljubljana and its castle has been recognised as Slovenia's best unique experience this year.

The Culinary Time Machine features a six-course menu of dishes representative of individual historical periods given a modern twist by Ljubljana Castle chefs and paired with select Slovenian wines.

With the help of a guide and costumed performers, the visitors are pampered at six culinary stops on a tour of the castle, being transported to the period of Ljubljana's ancient Roman predecessor Emona, through the Middle Ages, the period of Napoleon's Illyrian provinces, the days of the castle penitentiaries to the time of Mayor Ivan Hribar in the early 20th century.

The recipes for the dishes come from the cook book Foods of Times - Time for Food, published by Ljubljana Castle in collaboration with ethnologist Janez Bogataj.
