Nika Prevc wins season opener
Slovenia's Nika Prevc has won the opening event of the new women's Ski Jumping World Cup season in Norway's Lillehammer, in what was a dream start for last year's winner of the large crystal globe.
The 19-year-old scored 269.9 points with jumps of 138.5 and 138 metres on 23 November, beating German Katharina Schmid by a whole 22.3 points. Schmid's compatriot Selina Freitag was a further three points behind.
In the second series, Prevc was half a metre shorter than in the first, but she actually managed to doubled her lead.
"I'm very happy I've managed to remain calm and collected before the first individual event... I hope this feeling continues," she said.
The second-best Slovenian was Nika Vodan, who was 19th with jumps of 115 and 120.5 metres, while Taja Bodlaj, who qualified for the finals only after the disqualification of Norwegian Eirin Marie Kvandal, finished 30th.
