This year, over 300 events will be held at over 170 venues in almost 70 towns around Slovenia, including a permanent exhibition on Prešeren in Kranj, where the renown poet spent a lot of his life.

Apart from that, the Kranj-based Gorenjski muzej is presenting the "Prešerniana" collection of literature on Peršeren.

The Tourism board of Žirovnica will host an event in the poet's birthplace, Vrba, to mark the ending of an art competition for the best image of Prešeren.

Among the 452 works the board had received in the year-long competition for children and adults, the jury selected the best 68 to be published in a special booklet dubbed "In Search of Prešeren's Image".

In 2000, on the 200th anniversary of Prešeren's birth the Culture Ministry proposed holding an open day on 3 December, which has developed into a massive cultural festival known as The Merry Day of Culture.
