Golob meets Donald Trump in Paris
Prime Minister Robert Golob briefly met US President-elect Donald Trump as world leaders gathered in Paris for the Notre Dame Cathedral reopening ceremony at the invitation of French President Emmanuel Macron on 7 December.
The prime minister's office described the first meeting between Golob and Trump as cordial and friendly, adding that the US president-elect "did not conceal his enthusiasm for the homeland of his wife and her family". Trump's wife Melania is Slovenian.
The meeting took place at a gala dinner hosted by French President Macron at the Elysee Palace following the Notre Dame reopening ceremony. Golob was accompanied by his life companion Tina Gaber.
Golob's attendance at the ceremony was labelled as a contribution to deepening political ties between Slovenia and France.
Slovenian President NataĊĦa Pirc Musar and Trump spoke over the phone in November, just days after Trump won the US presidential election. Pirc Musar's office said the pair reaffirmed excellent bilateral relations.
The presidents at the time also talked about the war in Ukraine, with Pirc Musar stressing the need to resolve the conflict based on the fundamental provisions of the UN Charter.
