Melania Trump tops Reporter list of most influential Slovenians
Melania Trump, who will become the first lady of the US for a second time later this month, tops the 2025 list of the most influential Slovenians compiled by the magazine Reporter.
The 54-year-old former model returned to the top of the list after a five-year hiatus as her husband Donald Trump is due to be inaugurated as the 47th president of the United States on 20 January.
She is followed by Prime Minister Robert Golob in second and Marta Kos, the European commissioner for enlargement, in third.
The Reporter Top 100 list takes into account formal influence associated with the person's post or job, as well as their informal influence as assessed by the magazine's editorial board.
"The new/old First Lady of Slovenian descent is unrivalled in terms of her mainly informal influence both on the American and global levels," the Reporter magazine writes in its latest edition, released on 6 January.
Ljubljana Mayor Zoran Janković ranks 4th on the list, followed in 5th by Milan Kučan, Slovenia's first president, who Reporter says still wields the greatest informal influence on the left side of the Slovenian political spectrum.
UEFA boss Aleksander Čeferin, who topped the list last year ahead of Golob and Janković, has slipped back to 6th place but the magazine says he still has considerable influence, especially behind the scenes in the political and business circles.
Slovenian President Nataša Pirc Musar slipped two rungs from last year and four from the year before to place 7th which Reporter says is after her rivalry with Golob.
Opposition leader Janez Janša, Finance Minister Klemen Boštjančič and Economy Minister Matjaž Han round off the top ten.
The Reporter Top 100 list includes only 22 women, 14 of whom are ranked among the top 50, including Golob's life companion Tina Gaber in 50th owing to her influence on the government.
Although dominated by politicians, the list also includes some of Slovenia's top athletes. The world's best road cyclist Tadej Pogačar ranks 81st, NBA superstar Luka Dončić is in 83rd and Matjaž Kek, the head coach of the national men's football side, places 78th.
