Slovenia's best woman ski jumper, Nika Prevc won the first of the two World Cup events in Ljubno pri Savinji for her 15th career victory, consolidating her lead in the overall World Cup rankings.

The 19-year-old jumped 95 metres in the final round for a total of 258 points to beat German Selina Freitag (240.6 points) and Norwegian Thea Minyan Bjoerseth (233), who suffered a nasty fall in the second series after setting the hill record at 97 metres in the first.

In a major surprise, Nika was presented the trophy by her brother Peter Prevc, Slovenia's best ever ski jumper, who retired last year, while her father Božidar gave her flowers and hugged her on the top of the podium.

"I only noticed them at the award ceremony and it was a big surprise for me, the most beautiful thing. So there really isn't much left to fix for tomorrow, both in terms of the jumps and the atmosphere. I just hope to repeat today's jumps," she said.

Nika Prevc was second in the first round with a jump of 90.5 metres, but came in only 2.5 points behind Bjoerseth because she jumped from a lower start gate and in significantly worse weather conditions.

In the finals Prevc pulled off the longest jump of the round for a convincing win. Bjoerseth was just half a metre behind, at 94.5 metres, but then fell as she landed to finish third.

She was carried off on a stretcher and taken to hospital in Ljubljana with pain in her left knee and left shoulder, according to the Norwegian Ski Association.

Except for that first round, Prevc beat the competition in all the remaining five rounds in the first two days in Ljubno, including trial and qualifying series.

"I'm happy with all my jumps, including the somewhat worse one in today's first round ... In the second round, none of the jumpers were comfortable, Bjoerseth made good jumps today and she didn't deserve it," she said about the Norwegian's fall, which dampened the mood at the event, which attracted some 10,000 fans.

This is the third straight victory for Prevc after she swept both events at the World Cup meet in Lake Placid, US last weekend. Overall, she now has a lead of 265 points on her closest rival, Germany's Katharina Schmid, who placed 7th today.

Prevc is thus well on track to win the Crystal Globe again after winning it last season.

With 15 individual wins she has matched Primož Peterka, the second best Slovenian ski jumper of all time, both men and women, after Nika's brother Peter, who has 24. "I'm not chasing Peter but I hope I will follow him in continuation of my career," Nika said.

Ljubno will host another World Cup event on 16 February.
