French adventure film wins Mountain Film Festival
Wild Days (Les Jours Sauvages), a French film by Yohan Guignard about four friends on a journey across Alaska, has won the main award at the 19th Mountain Film Festival, held in Ljubljana, Domžale and Radovljica.
The film follows the four friends during their 50-day adventure in the Arctic regions of Alaska as they walk, ski, row and climb, reaching the summit of Denali in the process, without any outside assistance.
"A true adventure, filmed with plenty of humour, where the characters are well-developed and allow us to experience genuine emotions. A real adventure film, which is a genre we are recently seeing less and less, unfortunately," the judging panel said.
The film won the Grand Prix of the City of Domžale.
The international judging panel comprising Bulgarian journalist and climber Tanja Ivanova, Slovenian author and filmmaker Mojca Volkar Trobevšek and Swiss director and alpinist Fulvio Mariani, also picked winners in each category among 32 films screened at the festival.
The best Alpine film award went to The Last Expedition, a portrait of Wanda Rutkiewicz, the greatest woman Himalayan climber of all time by Polish director Eliza Kubarska.
The best climbing film award went to With My Heart by American director Andrea Cossu, one of five Reel Rock films screened at the festival.
In the mountains, sports and adventure category, the winning film is Pachamama, a French-Argentinian-Chilean co-production exploring the Patagonian mountains.
My Sweden - A Changing Wilderness by wildlife film-maker Zoltán Török was the winner in the nature and culture category.
The best short film award went to the Slovenian film Rods, Rolls and Reality on the Soča, a film about friends catching fish, full of the beauty of nature, humour and a pleasant atmosphere, according to the jury.
The winning films will be screened in Ljubljana and Radovljica on 21 February, while Wild Days and Wanda Rutkiewicz: The Last Expedition will be on show on 22 February in Domžale.
