Nika Prevc for the history books
Slovenian ski jumping star Nika Prevc has won her second World Championship gold, becoming the first female jumper in history to win the title on both the large and the small hill in the same season.
The competition on 7 March was marred by wind and Prevc won as the top performer in the first round, after the second round was cancelled.
The 19-year-old overall World Cup leader jumped 134.5 metres to beat Selina Freitag of Germany by 14.2 points. Norway's Eirin Maria Kvandal in third was 18.5 points behind.
Prevc, who is leaving Trondheim with three medals, including silver in the mixed teams, was overjoyed. "This is something you can only wish and hope for," she told TV Slovenija.
She described the championship as one of the best weeks of her life. "I'm truly grateful for this," she said.
Prevc has been utterly dominant this season: after six consecutive World Cup wins, this was the eighth individual event in a row that she has won.
"I'm honoured to coach her and the team," said coach Jurij Tepeš, himself a former successful jumper.
