Slovenia's Domen Prevc won the first World Cup Ski Flying event on home ground in Planica on the final weekend of competition this season to clinch the small Crystal Globe in ski flying with two events to go.

His teammate Anže Lanišek was second and Ryoyu Kobayashi of Japan was third.

The two Slovenian top flyers delighted over 15,000 spectators who flocked to Planica braving wind and rain.

Lanišek produced the longest flight of the day in the first round, touching down at 242 metres, and was in the lead going into the final round. But the pair switched places, as Prevc surpassed Lanišek by 10 metres in the second round.

Prevc earned a total of 459.1, with Lanišek less than five points behind.

"After so many years I'm so happy I finally achieved this victory in this spectacular venue in front of home fans," said Prevc.

"It was a wonderful day, despite the rain. I produced two good jumps ... I wasn't thinking about the globe, I was focused on myself."

The 25-year-old Prevc has been on a roll this season.

While he has not been dominant in the World Cup - he is currently outside the top ten in the overall standings - he has nevertheless notched up some impressive achievements.

He has won three individual events, peaking at the World Championships, where he grabbed gold on the large hill, gold with the men's team and silver with the mixed team.
