Nova Gorica gaming tech supplier ties up with German client
Spintec, the Nova Gorica-based developer, designer, producer, and supplier of electronic table games, has found a strategic partner in its German client Merkur to expand its business and grow its sales in the US.
Casino operator Merkur acquired a 30% stake in the Nova Gorica company in February after two years of negotiations, the business portal Finance reported on 24 April.
"This secured funding for our continued growth. By 2030, we plan to increase our revenue from over €15 million last year to €100 million," Spintec CEO Goran Miškulin told Finance.
He said such strong growth would be made possible mainly because they will offer their gaming machines for rent in the US.
Spintec sells its flagship product, a fully automated roulette, under its own brand. It supplies it to casinos around the world, including Monaco, the US and Macao.
Miškulin, who used to work at the Nova Gorica gaming company Hit, founded Spintec 15 years ago together with six other partners. With the entry of the German company, his ownership stake decreased from 62% to 51%. The other six partners hold 19%.
The company employs 85 people. Exports account for 99% of its revenue. Half are generated in Europe, a quarter in Asia, 15% in the US, and 10% in South America.
Spintec exports its products through distributors. In Slovenia, it has an 80% market share for electronic table games played in casinos.
The company posted €1.2 million in net profit last year on €15.3 million in revenue (up from €11.9 million in 2023). It plans to increase revenue to €20 million this year.
Spintec's main problem in recent years has been financing business growth due to banks' strict rules on gaming industry financing, Miškulin told Finance.
That is why the company was forced to look for other options or a strategic partner, which it found in Merkur, a client that has accounted for 10% of Spintec's sales.
Merkur holds a 50% market share in the German casino market, but it is also present in other markets such as the UK, Spain, the Netherlands and the Balkans.
"We also expect to cooperate with Merkur in the markets. Where they are better positioned than us, we expect them to open doors for us, and we'll open doors for them elsewhere. We plan to increase sales in the US," said Miškulin.
