SBI TOP Ends Week in Red, Mercator Gains 5% on Takeover Speculations
Mercator gained 7.04% to EUR 130 this week. The trend was fuelled by speculations that Agrokor was working on another takeover attempt. Agrokor refused to comment but told the STA that they had not contacted Mercator's owners since the last takeover attempt.
The turbulent political developments seemed to have affected the stock market this week. SBI TOP dropped 5.18% on Wednesday in what some analysts said might have been the result of a looming political crisis.
A day earlier the Corruption Prevention Commission reported that Prime Minister Janez Janša and opposition Positive Slovenia (PS) Zoran Janković violated anti-corruption legislation and they were urged to resign by leaders of several other parties.
Total turnover amounted to around EUR 13m this week.
Mercator was not the only item to end the week in the black. Household appliances maker Gorenje gained 5.56% to EUR 4.18.
The biggest loser among the blue chips this week was telco Telekom Slovenije, dropping 5.56% to EUR 93.50. Energy company Petrol shed 5.33% to EUR 232, while insurance company Zavarovalnica Triglav was down 4.71% to EUR 17.
