Croatia "is confronting its neighbour, a member of the EU, at the least appropriate time, waiting for a miracle and expecting its own lack of respect for existing agreements to go unnoticed," Kacin said a day after Pusić made the comment.

He warned that a "potential historic mistake on Croatia'a part would send a bad message to member states, institutions and the citizens of the EU at a moment when trust in Croatia must be strengthened."

He believes that other countries in the Western Balkans working toward joining the bloc would become collateral damage.

Kacin is to meet European Enlargement Commissioner Štefan Füle on the sidelines of the plenary in Strasbourg and the meeting is likely to discuss the developments concerning the ratification of Croatia's accession agreement in Slovenia.

On Monday Füle met with Pusić, who said after the meeting that the commissioner shared her view that the LB bank issue and Slovenia's ratification of Croatia's accession agreement were the only issues which could delay Croatia's EU accession planned for 1 July.

Pusić also expressed hope that Slovenia and Croatia will find a solution for the LB issue and that accession agreement ratification will begin despite the political crisis in Slovenia.
