After falling behind in the first half the Slovenian team picked up the pace in the opening stages of the second half and beefed up defensive play, persevering even through Poland's massive push in the closing minutes.

Borut Mačkovšek was the top scorer for Slovenia with 8 goals, with Dragan Gajič adding 7.

This was the third win for Slovenia after it crushed Saudi Arabia and South Korea. The final group matches against Belarus and Serbia are scheduled for 17 and 19 February.

Slovenia are now in second place in Group C, behind Serbia due to a worse goal differential.
