Public Opinion: Janković and Janša Must Resign
Respondents were unimpressed by reactions of prime minister and Democrats (SDS) leader Janša and Ljubljana Mayor and former Positive Slovenia (PS) leader Janković to the report, with 78% saying they failed to respond properly while only 13% said their response had been appropriate.
Janković suspended his leadership of the party but is staying on as the mayor of Ljubljana. Janša meanwhile subjected himself to a vote of confidence in his party.
Asked to chose one of the four possible solutions to the current political standstill, 33% of respondents said early election would be the best option while 29% said the current coalition should put forward a new prime minister.
About 20% said a technocrat government would be in order, while a new coalition without the SDS was deemed the best option by about 9% of respondents.
Supporters of the SDS generally supported the scenario of a new prime minister and the current coalition (63%) while 20% of them were in favour of an early election.
Supporters of the opposition Social Democrats (SD) mainly opted for an early election (36%) and the scenario of a new prime minister from within the current coalition (32%).
The coalition Peoples's Party (SLS) supporters favoured the scenario of a new prime minister, the current coalition (36%) or an early election (30%).
The survey was conducted by Delo's in-house polling division Delo Stik between 16 and 17 January and involved 503 adult respondents.
