While the traditional competition, which has been taking place since 1964, was relocated twice in the last six years over poor snow and weather conditions and was even cancelled last year, the International Ski Federation (FIS) gave this year's meet a green light last week.

Organisers said on Thursday that the cold temperatures and sunny skies forecast will make for a perfect competition. What is more, at least 20,000 visitors are expected on account of Maze's excellent form.

The competition will start on Friday with training and the drawing of starting numbers for Saturday's giant slalom race, which will be followed by the slalom event on Sunday.

Maze, who has surpassed even before the end of January her overall points in last year's record season, will have a good chance of repeating the 1988 achievement of Mateja Svet, the only Slovenian skier to have ever won both events at the Golden Fox.

The Slovenian hopeful has won two Golden Fox giant slaloms in the past, in 2005 and 2009.

This season, Maze is among the first three skiers in all four World Cup events and has won six races and a position among the top three in 15 of 23 races.

The total prize fund for this year's Golden Fox stands at EUR 149,000, of which EUR 28,000 will go for the winners of each event.
