Maze's second place today has already secured her the small crystal globe in the giant slalom discipline this season, having already won four giant slalom events while finishing on the podium in the remaining three.

"I managed the first run perfectly, there was incredible support. I could hear the supporters already up at the start. It was a whole new experience, a truly amazing feeling to see so many people gathered to support me. I have never experienced anything like it," Maze told reporters.

"I tried my best in the second run but I couldn't keep the lead. My congratulations go to Vonn who was the best today and especially to the spectators who were truly great. Thanks to everyone who came to Pohorje today," she added.

Today's second place in front of some 20,000 spectators was Maze's 16th podium finish this season. In her top form this season, Maze has bagged six victories and is firmly on top of the overall standings, 748 points ahead of Germany's Maria Höfl-Riesch, who places second.

Slovenia had one more skier bagging points at today's meet, Ana Drev, who finished 22nd (+2.36).

The Golden Fox will continue on Sunday with a slalom event. The first run is scheduled for 9:15 AM and the second run at 12:15 PM.
