Rail Operator Generates Profit in 2012

Operating profit reached EUR 7.3m last year, above plans. EBITDA was at EUR 47.4m.

Last year, intensive restructuring was under way. The number of employees was reduced by 618 to 8,179.

The restructuring will continue in 2013. The group is expected to reduce the number of employees to 7,754 by the end of the year.

Operating profit is expected to reach EUR 16.2m this year. Revenue from cargo transport is projected to rise by 4.2% in 2013, while revenue from passenger transport will remain level.

The rail operator expects to transport 16.5 million tonnes of cargo this year, which would be a 1.6% increase over last year. The number of passengers is expected to reach 16 million, which would be 4.6% more than in 2012.

Apart from going over the group's results for 2012 and plans for 2013, the supervisory board of Slovenske železnice was also briefed about the guidelines for the 2013-2017 strategic plan.
