Slovenia's energy dependency was at 48.4% in 2011, slightly under the EU average of 53.8%, Eurostat said.

The highest energy consumption in 2011 was recorded by Germany (316 million tonnes of oil equivalent, which was -7.7%), France (260 million tonnes, -4.6%), the UK (199 million tonnes, -9.4%), Italy (173 million tonnes, -4.8%) and Spain (129 million tonnes, -9.4%).

The total energy consumption of these countries amounts to nearly two thirds of the energy consumed in the EU in 2011 or 1.698 billion tonnes of oil equivalent. Energy consumption throughout the bloc saw a 5.7% decrease between 2008 and 2011.
