The second place went to Laurenne Ross of the US (+39) and the third to Germany's Maria Höfl-Riesch (+0.50)

This is Maze's second downhill victory ever, after she won the St. Moritz event in 2008.

"It felt really special winning the downhill today. I have been good in downhill this season, but never flawless. I won a downhill event once years ago, but I think that was a result of lucky circumstances and weather. But this time it was not luck," Maze said.

"I have had a really incredible season. It's hard to find the right words to describe all this...This is probably my favourite day in the season. Winning in downhill is not easy and I am very proud of this result."

Commenting on her exceeding of the 2,000 points record set by Maier in the 1999/2000 season, Maze said she wished to continue on this path. "It is something we have all anticipated. Too bad it is not night-time, we could make fireworks," she said.

Maze performed well yesterday as well, finishing second in super-g.

With today's victory she also bagged a record 20th podium finish in this season.

So far, Hanna Wenzel of Liechtenstein and Pernilla Wiberg of Sweden held the record of 18 podium finishes.

Maze now has a 1,054 point advantage in the overall World Cup standings with 2,024 points and seven more events to go. Höfl-Riesch follows in second place with 970 points.
