The Slovenian prime minister will also meet President of the EU Council Herman Van Rompuy, his office told the STA. A meeting with President of the European Parliament Martin Schulz is also on her agenda.

According to European Commission spokesman Cezary Lewanowicz, the purpose of Bratušek's visit will be frank and open discussion on the general economic situation in the EU and measures the Slovenian government plans to propose in a bid to improve the economic situation in Slovenia.

The programme of the meeting has not been fully detailed yet but Lewanowicz believes it will touch on issues of "fiscal consolidation, excessive general government deficit, unemployment and the social dimension of the crisis".

Ahead of the June EU summit, Barroso might also wish to discuss with the Slovenian official ideas and measures to increase discipline and initiatives for the implementation of national reforms in member states. The pair are also expected to discuss reform needed to rebalance EU economies, according to Lewanowicz.
