Slovenia put up a good fight against the strongly favoured Canadians and came two goals ahead in first period thanks to Jan Urbas.

The game went into overtime at 3:3, but Canada clinched it with a 63rd minute goal by Stamkos.

Slovenia's final match of the championships had been a formality, as previous games in its group made it impossible to remain in the elite division.
