There is a lot of potential for investments in technology, education, energy and tourism, Aliyev said after talks with Economy Minister Stanko Stepišnik and prior to a meeting with Prime Minister Alenka Bratušek.

Stepišnik said, according to a press release from the Economy Ministry, that activities needed to focus on improving bilateral goods trade.

The delegation, featuring Aliyev and four members of parliament, also met the members of the Foreign Policy Committee.

Member of the European Parliament Ivo Vajgl (Zares/ALDE), who took part in the talks, said the visit was crucial for the development of bilateral ties.

"This is not about bargaining, about commerce, it is about mutual connection of interests," he said.

The MPs also discussed the situation in Nagorno Karabakh, with the Slovenian side expressing the hope that the conflict will be resolved peacefully.

Azerbaijan is among a group of emerging economies which have been defined as strategic partners in the Foreign Ministry's strategy.
