Closer Cooperation With India
The visit by the most senior Indian parliamentary official to Slovenia so far is "an exceptional honour and a confirmation of the traditionally good relations between the two countries," Veber was quoted as saying in a press release from parliament.
The pair exchanged views about bilateral cooperation, especially between both parliaments, as well as in economy, culture and other fields.
They established that an important milestone in the relations was the 2011 visit to India by the then Prime Minister Borut Pahor, when a group of friendship with Slovenia was set up in the Indian Parliament.
The two speakers called for a boost in trade and investment between the two countries, with Kumar noting that despite the recent increase in bilateral relations, there was still a lot of potential.
Kumar acknowledged that Slovenia selected India as one of its priority markets and expressed the hope that India too could contribute to better cooperation.
The visiting speaker was impressed by Slovenia's beauties, expressing her belief that the country could become one of the most popular destinations for Indians.
Veber mentioned the opportunity for closer cooperation in maritime transport, as Slovenia was well geographically positioned to serve as an entry point to central European markets.
The pair also discussed cooperation in science, technology and culture, noting keen interest among the Slovenians in Indian classical music, dance and Hindi.
Kumar offered help in reviving the International Centre for Promotion of Enterprises, where both countries are involved as members.
The Indian official will also visit the lakeside town of Bled, where she will be received by the mayor, and open an exhibition of Indian painters in Ljubljana City Hall with Mayor Zoran Janković.
She will tour western Slovenia on Tuesday for a visit to the Postojna Caves, the country's best known sight and a meeting with the boss of the company operating the caves Marjan Batagelj, and for the unveiling of a bust of India's first PM Jawaharlal Nehru in Goriška Brda.
Meetings with President Borut Pahor, Prime Minister Alenka Bratušek and heads of deputy factions in the National Assembly are scheduled for Wednesday.
