Acting Slovenian Ambassador to the UN Andrej Marn confirmed for the STA that he signed the treaty, which can be implemented once it is ratified by at least 50 countries.

The treaty, which prohibits the sale of arms to the countries where there is danger of violation of human rights, was endorsed by the UN General Assembly in April.

It got the support of European countries, including Slovenia and several African countries, where conventional arms are causing the most harm. It was also backed by the US, the world's biggest exporter of such weapons.
