The four gold medals at the weekend came courtesy of two golds for tennis player Blaž Rola and two for kayaker Špela Ponomarenko.

Rola won the men's doubles competition with Tomislav Ternar late on Friday and then repeated in the singles competition 18 hours later with a five set win over home-crowd favourite Marsel Ilhan, 6:7 (6), 6:2, 3:6, 7:6 (4) in 6:2.

Ponomarenko won the gold in the 500 metre still water sprint and then followed it up with a win in the 200 metre sprint.

Meanwhile, the Slovenian women's handball team finished the competition in second place, after losing to Serbia 19-25 on Saturday.

Badminton player Maja Tvrdy meanwhile won bronze medals in the doubles (with Nika Koncut) and singles competition at the weekend, while Juš Markač won bronze in the men's 84kg karate competition.

The weekend results increased Slovenia's medal tally to 35, which is one short of the best outing to date in Almeria, Spain, eight years ago.

Along with the 13 gold medals, Slovenia won 11 silver and 11 bronze medals.
