The international jury of world's oldest sports film festival reviewed around 100 films and decided to present the Golden Knight Award to the Slovenian documentary directed by Irena Bedrač.

This was the second time a Slovenian sports documentary was awarded in Palermo. "Leon Štukelj - legenda gimnastike" (Leon Štukelj - Gymnastics Legend) by Franček Jauk, was granted the same honour in the early nineties.

"RUTH 246.8" tells the story of Ruth Podgornik Reš as she runs the Spartathlon, a 246-kilometre ultramarathon race held annually in Greece since 1983. She was the first Slovenian woman to run the demanding race.

Primarily known as an exceptional sportswoman, Reš was also a well-known horticulturist and author of books on flowers and gardening. She died on 27 December 2012 in an avalanche while hiking in the Slovenian Alps.
