The largest number of farms to introduce organic production was located in the coastal municipalities of Koper and Piran, while there were also almost 100 farms that gave up on organic production last year.

Expanding by 100%, olive groves saw the greatest increase in terms of land area used for organic production, their share in the total area is however modest, at less than 0.5%. In 2012, 21% of the olives in Slovenia were grown organically.

Meadows and pastures still covered the largest portion, 85%, of all the organic agricultural areas. Other categories covered around 11% (meadows and pastures) and 3% (orchards).

In the category of organic animal breeding, there was an almost 80% increase of organic poultry, followed by fish (64%) and rabbits (38%), while the number of cattle and sheep stayed the same.
