Football: Maribor to Face Viktoria Plzen for Spot in Champions League

Slovenia's most successful football club will face the reigning Czech league champions in the first leg in Plzen on 20 or 21 August, with the return leg scheduled for a week later in Maribor.

Maribor have made it to the fourth and final round of qualification for the Champions League with wins over Malta's Birkirkara (2-0) and Apoel of Nicosia (1-1, won on away goals).

Plzen defeated Željezničar of Bosnia-Herzegovina 6-4 and then demolished Estonian champions Kalja 10-2 to book a playoff place.

The last time Maribor made it to the group stage of the Champions League was in the 1999/2000 season. Last season they made it to the playoffs in qualifying, but were knocked out by Croatian champions Dinamo of Zagreb.
