Slovenian Tourists in Egypt Safe, Tour Operators Says

Neither Kompas nor Sonček have had any holidays cancelled, yet most of their tourists are stationed at the Red Sea resorts of Hurghada or Sharm el-Sheikh.

The agents are in touch with them on a daily basis through local tourist agents and media.

Kompas has some 100 tourists at these two resorts, says its sales director Peter Majerle.

"The tourists do not feel any change. The situation has calmed down in Hurghada, the curfew was lifted..., while in Sharm el-Sheikh no change of daily routine could be felt," he told the STA on Friday.

As scheduled, Kompas is taking another 80 tourists and Sonček some 200 to Egypt on Saturday.

Palma meanwhile decided already a few weeks ago not to organise tours to Cairo and Luxor, its PR officer Nika Vrhovnik told the STA.

Similarly, the Slovenian Foreign Ministry said today that Red Sea resorts remained relatively safe.

But it nevertheless changed its travel advisory, warning Slovenian citizens against all non-essential travel to the restive country.

In particular it said tourists should keep away from major cities where protests are ongoing or planned.
