Information Commissioner Steps Down from NSA Inquiry Task Force

The Justice Ministry, which nominated Pirc Musar to the task force, refused to assume any obligations, either as the proponent for the verification of access to confidential EU and NATO data or as payer of the costs.

The European Commission also refuses to cover the costs of her participation, the Information Commissioner said Friday.

If the basic things related to the work of the task force are not sorted out, "it is unrealistic to expect the substantive results would get traction."

"It appears that the work of the task force is not a priority for the Commission or for the government," Pirc Musar said.

The task force was established after NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden leaked documents showing the NSA engaging in widespread espionage in Europe.
