EuroBasket: Slovenia in Q-Finals
Another game for Slovenia in the sold-out Stožice Arena started with the Slovenians making a furious rally, which included 11 straight points by point guard Goran Dragić.
His back-up Jaka Lakovič added 7 points in the almost perfect first period for Slovenia, which ended with the tournament hosts leading 26:13.
The break did not help the Greeks, as Slovenians continued with their smothering defence and fast transition game to increase the lead by the end of the second quarter to 16 points, with Dragić adding another seven points to end the half with 18.
Another scoring spurt by Dragić helped Slovenia increase the lead to 26 points three and a half minutes to go, but the Greeks did not give up and managed to reduce the margin to 16 points by the end of the third quarter (62:46).
But this advantage was almost not enough, as the Greeks rallied around veteran guard Vassilis Spanoulis to cut Slovenia's lead to only six points late in the quarter. Slovenia however managed to hold the fort, with Dragić scoring a key lay-up in the last minute.
Dragić finished the match with game-high 28 points and added 4 assists, while Spanoulis was the man for the Greeks with 21 points and 8 rebounds.
In the other two matches in the second round Group F, Croatia defeated Italy 76:68 and Spain cruised past Finland 82:56.
