ŠKUC described the 1984 exhibition as an early example of an "re-enactment", a term that has become customary in contemporary art only in the last decade.
The re-enacted exhibition marks the 30th anniversary of the Irwin collective, also known as part of the wider collective labelled Neue Slowenische Kunst, and will feature about half of the original works of art.
"We chose the material back then on the basis of a catalogue of an exhibition that was travelling around Europe. Building on the images we saw in the catalogue and the knowledge about the authors we made our own interpretations of their pieces," Andrej Savski of Irwin told the STA.
"With the exception of catalogues and magazines it was not possible in the former Yugoslavia to get information about what is being made outside," he further explained the reasons for the 1984 exhibition.
