Comedy in Ski Association
In an unexpected twist on Friday afternoon, Ulaga announced that he was not resigning. He even added that he had never formally stepped down. "My stance today is that I will continue to head the association and do a good job at it," he told the press.
He announced that he would push ahead with his tenure until a general assembly which will decide on a president, which is scheduled for January.
"My statements about wanting to resign at Thursday's session of the executive council were taken out of context. I never signed anything nor did I give an official statement," the former ski jumping star said.
The SZS had previously said Ulaga, a former successful ski jumper, had resigned on personal grounds at the session and that an interim president had already been appointed.
It is therefore unclear whether Ulaga can continue to head the association, as indicated by executive council member Srečko Medven after Ulaga's surprise announcement.
"The view of the executive council is that Ulaga resigned yesterday... This is why the council took the decision to accept his resignation and appoint Enzo Smrekar the acting president until a new full-time president is appointed," said Medven.
Medven added that the executive council had gone through "very compromising documents" for Ulaga.
The resignation came just days before the skiing season is scheduled to get underway and four months before the Olympic Games in Sochi.
