Slovenia Explaining "Western Balkans" Situation in Canada

According to a press release of the Defence Ministry, Jakič thanked the Canadian minister for the support in training programmes, especially in linguistic training, military training for special operations and the training of military chaplains.

Discussing the situation on the Western Balkans, the Slovenian minister stressed that ensuring long-term security, stability and progress in the region was strategically important for Slovenia.

Moreover, Jakič said that the upcoming tenth anniversary of the biggest NATO enlargement was a great opportunity for the alliance to confirm its open-doors policy, underlining the role of this policy for continued reform processes in the Western Balkans.

He explained that it was in Slovenia's interest to be particularly active in international missions in this region, although it is also present in missions in the Middle East, the Mediterranean, Central Asia and northern Africa.

As part of the international security forum in Halifax, Jakič will appear as one of the main speakers at a debate on Eastern Europe and its (un)fulfilled expectations.
