PR Show of Opposition: 16 hours Debating About Interior Minister!

The Democrats (SDS), People's Party (SLS) and New Slovenia (NSi) filed the motion to oust Virant in November over his handling of compensation for the erased and a disputed local government reform plan.

The opposition also accuse him of signing harmful agreements with public sector trade unions, which they say favours members of trade unions by giving them higher jubilee awards.

Virant has rejected the accusations, saying that he is "being ousted primarily because we have really done a lot, and if you work hard, you raise dust." He enjoys the support of the coalition and the vote is likely to be only a formality.

This is the second interpellation motion in the term of the Alenka Bratušek government. Finance Minister Uroš Čufer has already survived an ouster motion, while the SDS and NSi also filed a motion against Infrastructure and Spatial Planning Minister Samo Omerzel on Wednesday.

The ouster vote on Virant will be followed by the fast-tracking of amendments to the copyright act, the act on construction and the act on electronic communication.

The MPs will moreover perform the second readings of a new energy bill and amendments to the act on the working time of professional drivers.
