The Democrats (SDS), People's Party (SLS) and New Slovenia (NSi) wanted to oust Virant over his handling of compensation for the erased, a disputed local government reform plan, and for signing harmful agreements with public sector trade unions.

Virant rejected the reproaches, saying that the dismissal motion had no ground and was a waste of time and taxpayers' money. "Everything you criticise are actually achievements I am proud of."

He denied having done harmful deals with the public sector unions and protested against "the creation of a rift" between the private and the public sector saying both were equally important.

Virant also rejected the criticism of his handling of the planned local government reform, saying the local government reform strategy was still in the making and that it would only be possible to discuss it was adopted by the government.

This was the second interpellation motion in the term of the Alenka Bratušek government. Finance Minister Uroš Čufer has already survived an ouster motion, while the SDS and NSi already filed a new motion against Infrastructure and Spatial Planning Minister Samo Omerzel.
