New Coalition Agreement: Another Document Without Operational Agenda
The latest, watered down version of the document appears to avoid the issues that have divided the coalition, including privatisation and the ill-fated TEŠ 6 project.
They are instead to be replaced by a much broader commitment for a speedy adoption of an assets management strategy and an "audit" of the EUR 1.4bn coal-fired generator that has been marred by cost overruns.
Pensioners' Party (DeSUS) leader Karl Erjavec had pushed for the agreement to include a commitment not to cut pensions and pensioners' holiday allowance. He said the prime minister assured him no such measures will be included in the coalition agreement.
The fate of priorities of other coalition partners are expected to be revealed either today or in the coming days, when parties debate the details in respective working groups.
The Social Democrats (SD) want the protection of the welfare state and the Citizens' List (DL) are pushing for a commitment against higher or new taxes and contributions. Healthcare reform is also high on the coalition agenda.
